A Weekend in the Word

I’ve been meaning to tell you for several weeks now that our daughter, Abigail, has been participating in Bible Drill this year. Along with being able to locate books of the Bible, she had to learn 25 Bible verses, the references and location of 10 key Bible passages, and she had to be able to recite the verses when a few words of the verse were given, or when just the references were given. She has worked really hard, and we’re so proud of her!

Our whole church’s Bible Drill Team passed the “church” drill, and went on to the Associational (or “local area” for those of you dear non SBC friends) drill. And every one of them passed that drill and made it to the State Bible Drill – which is quite an accomplishment. Abigail “won” at the State level! (I’m struggling to learn my 24 verses for the LPM Scripture memory challenge. But if my 10 year old can do it, SO CAN I!)

While she was “in the Word” at the State Bible Drill, I was “in the Word” in Lebanon, TN, speaking at a Spring Luncheon for the ladies of Fairview Baptist Church. It was the sweetest time of fellowship! The ladies did an amazing job of decorating individual tables. Take a look at these: (btw, I took pictures of the tables, but not of any of the ladies. By the time they came in, we were visiting, not posing for pictures!)

While the ladies and I were fellowshipping over God’s Word in the luncheon, God’s Word was being read non-stop for 24 hours a day in a Bible reading marathon in this church’s sanctuary! It was an incredible thing to wittness. They started in Genesis on Wednesday, and someone was standing in their pulpit from that point on, seamlessly reading the Word of God.

They signed up for 15 to 30 minute incriments, and where one left off, the other came right beside and started reading. I love God’s Word! I sat in the sanctuary before the luncheon started listening to someone reading, and even in those few moments, God spoke to me and touched my heart as I listened to His Word being read. It felt wonderful to know that I was about to get up and go share a message from God’s Word while His Word was being read aloud right around the corner.

They even had a church member who was in Israel call in while we were there and take his 15 minute turn reading the Word from the very place it originated! It was a very powerful day in the Word of God – sandwiched inbetween Friday’s preparation for Bible Drill and for the message God had me share, and Sunday’s day at church. It was a great weekend in the Word!

And by the way… I know I write a lot about Abigail these days – I guess it’s because a lot of my activities are centered around her activities – where my husband’s activities are more centered around our son’s activities. We do lots of things as a family, but when it comes to extra curricular activities, it’s kind of a “divide and conquer” kind of thing. If James had a blog (… well, he does, but he hasn’t written a post yet), he’d probably talk more about Nathan and football and conditioning practice and percussion and fishing and Star Wars and Wii games, etc than he would about Abigail’s emerging adolescence. πŸ™‚

However, Nathan is gearing up for 7th grade football, and they start practicing in full pads after May 2nd. So I’m sure that in the future, there will be plenty of posts about our son, and about what this mom is learning as she watches her son knock about and get knocked about on the football field.

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Congratulations to Abigail! And Nathan! What accomplishments. They are getting so grown up. πŸ™‚ Great parents! God Bless.

  2. Wow – that’s great about your daughter and you and the Scripture memory – God’s Word is powerful! It is His voice and will never fail.

I liked hearing about your speaking event and the church that is reading the Word non-stop – that is awesome – even a person from Israel – how cool is that?

Your life is full, so many blessings. So good to stop by and visit. I am always refreshed when I do πŸ™‚

    God’s peace,

  3. Hi precious!

WAY TO GO Abigail!! O my goodness she puts me to shame in the LPM bible verse memorization as well Jennifer πŸ™‚ Isn’t it amazing that our kids can grasp things so much easier? Well it’s because they are BRIGHT AND YOUTHFUL!! πŸ™‚ I’m so proud of her and the group. She is so beautiful!!!

Wish I had been in TN to hear you speak. I know I would have been blessed as I’m sure the ladies where and what GORGEOUS decorations and table settings!!!

24 hour Bible reading in the church is AWESOME! O the things that must have happened as a result of that in the spirit realm that will be seen manifested into the natural realm! I BLESS THE LORD O MY SOUL WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING FOR IT RIGHT NOW IN JESUS NAME!

Nathan is so handsome! ENJOY THAT FOOTBALL! I became a football fan in Sept 2006! My husband fell in love with me all over again (just kidding…we love each other like crazy).

I pray blessings over you and your family dear Jennifer. I look forward to hearing and reading even more…I love you.

  4. I was thinking the same thing as I read….”and I’m struggling to learn 24 verses!”.

That’s so amazing, and will be so life-impacting!

  5. I would love to come and hear you speak sometime! Can I invite myself? πŸ™‚

I know you are so proud of your girl! I was never involved in anything like that growing up–but I think that if I would have been, I would be much more of a “studier of the Word” than I am now.

Hope you are doing well–enjoy your day–where did the sun go? Cloudy over here by me!

  6. Kim... and Her Coffee says:

That sounds like a super weekend. I think the Bible Team is about the best gift to give that sweet girl of yours. I tried to get my two to join and could’nt convince them. I cannot imagine how different my life would have been and be today if I had gained that much of the Word and so young. What a blessing. The ladies luncheon looks fabulous. How fun to have a day to dress pretty and eat at pretty tables while listening to an AMAZING speaker! πŸ™‚ I can’t believe Nathan is starting 7th grade. How fun it will be to cheer for him this coming fall in football! Can’t wait for pictures.

You have yourself a beautiful day my sweet Friend. Love and Hugs coming your way from me… I’m so glad to be back on here and catching up with you!

  7. Yes, we have a divide and conquer way about us too!

    What pretty tables.
