A progression of praise

If we’re all being honest, sometimes, it’s just plain hard to “praise the Lord”.  There are times when each of us find ourselves in circumstances where we can hardly think of one thing for which to “praise” God.  The ironic thing is that it’s actually in those times when we need to praise Him the most.

If we can think of nothing else to praise God for, except that He is God, then that’s a beautiful place to start.   We are told in Psalm 22 that God dwells on and in the praises of His people.  Below are a few verses whose truths lead us to praise God ~ especially if we’re in the midst of a difficult time or a heated battle.  When dwelling on His promises to us forever, now, soon, and one day when the heat of this particular trial is cooled, we can progress to genuine praise.  Then we’ll know the comfort and joy of His presence ~ even if nothing in our circumstances has yet changed.

God is worthy of our praise.  Let’s let Him have it!

A PROMISE FOREVER:

“He knows the way that I take [He has concern for it, appreciates, and pays attention to it]. When he has tried me, I shall come forth as refined gold [pure and luminous].” Job 23:10

A PROMISED PROGRESSION OF PRAISE
NOW:
“…But as for me, my feet were almost gone, my steps had well-nigh slipped…But when I considered how to understand this, it was too great an effort for me and too painful UNTIL I went into the sanctuary of God; then I understood…For my heart was grieved, embittered, and in a state of ferment, and I was pricked in my heart [as with the sharp fang of an adder]…

Nevertheless I am continually with You; You do hold my right hand. You will guide me with Your counsel, and afterward receive me to honor and glory.
Whom have I in heaven but You? And I have no delight or desire on earth besides You. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the Rock and firm Strength of my heart and my Portion forever….But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God and made Him my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.”

Psalm 73:2,16-17a,21,23-26,28

SOON:
“As the hart pants and longs for the water brooks, so I pant and long for You, O God. My inner self thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and behold the face of God?
Yet the Lord will command His loving-kindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me, a prayer to the God of my life.
Why are you cast down, O my inner self? And why should you moan over me and be disquieted within me?

Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, Who is the help of my countenance, and my God.”

Psalm 42:1-2,8,11

ONE DAY:
“I waited patiently and expectantly for the Lord; and He inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up out of a horrible pit [a pit of tumult and of destruction], out of the miry clay (froth and slime), and set my feet upon a rock, steadying my steps and establishing my goings.

And He has put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many shall see and fear (revere and worship) and put their trust and confident reliance in the Lord.
Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who makes the Lord his refuge and trust…”

Psalm 40:1-4a

He is Reliable and Utterly Worthy of our Trust!  May we all cling to these promises for now, soon, and one day, as our lives unfold in praise.  Happy Sunday, my friends~
