Monday’s “Makes Me Smile” – I’ve been missing this!

Now that I’m back into the swing of a routine, it’s time to bring back Monday’s “Makes Me Smile.”  I love to smile and laugh, and it’s always fun to find and share these light-hearted things.  Hope they bring a smile to your Monday. 🙂

I think this could help me actually keep one of my new year’s resolutions (haha):

How about this?

In getting ready for several speaking engagements this week (one on Tuesday – and a retreat over the weekend, and I’d sure covet your prayers, please…) I found this e-mail that my friend Julie Roderer sent to me in 1999.  I kept it because it made me laugh out loud back then, and it has had the same effect today.  If you are near my age (or a teen of the 1980s) I’m guessing that you’ll LOL a bit too.

You’re lost between a Baby Boomer and a Gen X’er if:

*You remember when Jordache jeans with a flat handle comb in the back pocket was cool.

*In your class picture you were wearing an Izod shirt with the collar up.

*You remember the premier of MTV, in fact,  you remember the Friday Night Videos before the days of MTV.

*While in high school, you and your friends discussed elaborate plans to get together again at the end of the century and play Prince’s “1999”.

*You took family trips BEFORE the invention of the minivan.

*You rode in the back of the station wagon and you faced the cars behind you.

*Schoolhouse Rock played a HUGE part in how you actually learned the English language.
(Conjunction junction, what’s your function?…)

*The phrase “Where’s the beef?” still doubles you over with laughter.

*You remember trying to guess the episode of the Brady Bunch from the first scene.

*This rings a bell: “…and my name is Charlie.  They work for me.”

*You were unsure if Diet Coke would ever catch on.  (I remember thinking, “How can anything replace a Tab!”)

*You know all the words to the double album set of Grease.

*You ever had a Dorothy Hammill haircut.

*You sat with your friends on a Friday night and dialed 867-5309 to see if Jenny would answer.

* “All Skate, change directions” means something to you.

*You owned the “Official Preppy Handbook.”

*You remember when your cable TV box had a sliding selector switch.

*You remember Bo and Luke Duke.

and one more:

*The theme song to Greatest American Hero still comes back to you on occasion {Believe it or not, I’m walking on air…}

(Sorry if you now can’t get that awesome song out of your head!  It was the best, wasn’t it?)

Hope these brought a smile to your face and a giggle to your heart.  I relate to every single one of these!  How about you????

A God-blessed week to each of you, my friends~

  1. I have no doubt you will truly minister to whomever hears you speak. You are just anointed, Jen. You’re still the girl I want to be when I grow up!! :O) And as for the list—I STILL HAVE the Official Preppy Handbook!! It’s even on one of my Pinterest boards!! :O) And yes, the song is stuck in my head now…I’ll probably skip back and forth between that and “Ride Like the Wind” (Christopher Cross) for the rest of the evening. :OD

  2. Thanks for the laugh Jennifer. I like the OCD one I could use a visit from someone:) I am a baby boomer so remember some things on the list but not so much because they were part of my growing up years.

  3. Every single one. We must be the same age. Thanks.

  4. Ok this made me SMILE. So fun! I LOVE the FBI Surveillance one. Tim is home sick and I showed it to him. 🙂 I pray that you have clear direction on your speaking engagements, that you will share exactly what God has for you, and that you will be filled with His peace and you will feel HIs presence {both in the preparation and at the events}. Love to you my Friend!!!

  5. Blessings on your week and your speaking engagements. I know you will be a blessing!
