Makes Me Smile – Mother’s Day Edition

Hi friends~ I’m a little late in posting this, but some of these things are so funny and relatable, I’m sure they will make you smile!

1. In honor of moms everywhere, one of our downtown stores had a full window display of MOM JEANS! Complete with stuffed rear ends.

2. This was in my “Mother’s Day” file. I don’t know who wrote it, but it’s got a good deal of truth in it – haha!

HOW YOU KNOW IF YOU ARE READY TO BE A MOM

MESS TEST: Smear peanut butter on the sofa and curtains, and place a fish stick behind the couch. Leave it there for months. If it doesn’t bother you, you are ready to be a mom.

TOY TEST: Obtain a 55 gallon box of Legos or hard Barbie accessories. Have a friend spread them all over the house. Put on a blindfold. Try to walk to the bathroom or kitchen. Do not scream.

GROCERY STORE TEST: Borrow one or two small animals (goats are best) and take them with you while you shop at the grocery store. Always keep them in sight and pay for anything they eat or damage.

DRESSING TEST: Obtain one large, unhappy, live octopus. Stuff into a small bag making sure that all arms stay inside.

FEEDING TEST: Obtain a large plastic milk jug. Fill halfway with water. Suspend from the ceiling with a stout cord. Start with the jug swinging. Try to insert spoonfuls of soggy cereal into the mouth of the jug, while pretending to be an airplane. Now dump the contents of the jug on the floor.

SLEEP TEST: Prepare by obtaining a small cloth bag and fill it with 8-12 pounds of sand. Soak it thoroughly in water. At 8:00 pm begin to waltz and hum with the bag until 9:00 pm. Lay down your bag and set your alarm for 10:00 pm. Get up, pick up your bag, and sing every song you have ever heard. Keep singing until 4:00 am. Put down your bag and set your alarm for 5:00 am. Get up and make breakfast. Keep this up for five years while looking cheerful.

PHYSICAL TEST: Obtain a large bean bag chair and attach it to the front of your clothes. Leave it there for 9 months. Now remove 10 of the beans.

3. This video makes me smile! It’s “Kid President” on his advice to moms. I wonder if this little boy will grow up and actually get into politics!

If you can’t see it from your feed, click here.

4. This year’s Mother’s Day cards – can you guess which card was from which child? I am still laughing.

By the way, the caption on the toilet card says, “Thanks, Mom, for all you have taught me.” hahaha

5. Having a mom and being a mom – those things make me smile every time I think of it. I don’t take these gifts lightly.

This picture was one of my first as a mom.

This was our first picture with four generations in it… Mother’s Day and looking through old photos makes me really miss my grandmothers!

This was my first Mother’s Day as a mom of two… One just wouldn’t be seen for two more months.

And here we are now…

One of these days I plan to scan all pics of early life, but in my quest for mom photos, I came across these. They make me smile one of those sentimental smiles laced with tears threatening. Where has the time gone? Where have the years gone? The house full of toys and physical exhaustion?

Every stage of motherhood has been an enjoyable blessing, but I sure do wish I had known then what I know now… People would tell me, but its a truth that can only be understood as one lives it out…

These days go by so quickly.

Savor the moments.

Don’t stress over the little things.

Keep your eyes focused on Jesus & this temporary assignment of child-rearing.

The house? It can forgo a cleaning if you get a chance to snuggle with your little one.

This is ministry in its fullest sense. Laying down your life for another day in and day out.

Mothering is one of the highest ministry callings, and I’m humbly grateful that God graced me to be a mom.

A belated happy Mother’s Day to all of you moms out there… and to all women who pour into the lives of others.  That is a privilege that makes me smile, and I hope it is one that makes you smile, too. 🙂
